50th Hari Malaysia Celebration

The 50th Hari Malaysia celebration which marks the entry of Sabah and Sarawak into Malaysian Federation in 1963 was celebrated concurrently in Sabah and Sarawak on September 16. The biggest celebration was held at Padang Merdeka (Independence Field) in Kuching where a parade was conducted which also involved MAF’s assets especially of those from the Malaysian Army as well as the RMAF.

Two Sikorsky S-61A-4 Nuri helicopters, presumably from No 7 Skn of Kuching AFB made several flypasts throughout the event, carrying the Malaysian flag as well as the flag of Sarawak.

Other RMAF aircraft also joins in later on during the event which include two IAe CN235-200M from Kuching’s No 1 Skn, four BAe Hawk Mk 208 from No 6 Skn and four Sukhoi Su-30MKM Flanker from No 11 Skn.

Also making a rare appearance during the flypast were three Eurocopter EC-135 helicopters operated by the state-owned Hornbill Skyways.

MASwings debuted its recently acquired Viking Air DHC-6-400NG Twin Otter STOL aircraft during the flypast.

The Malaysian Army also paraded two of its Sibmas 6×6 AFSV and two Radpanzer Condor 4×4 APC. The Sibmas, equipped with Cockerill 90mm gun had seldomly made any recent public appearances.
