Tawau Naval Base Upgrade To Be completed Mid 2013

Works on upgrading RMN’s Naval Base in Tawau worth RM 50 million will be completed by mid next year as part of the Government’s effort to update naval bases in Sabah and Sarawak. (here)

The RMN has established KD Sri Tawau since the 1960’s during the Indonesian Confrontation as part of the effort to boost security in this part of Sabah. During its initial establishment, the base was allocated with two Harbour Diesel Launch, Borneo 11 and Borneo 12 to counter the Indonesian KKO’s infiltration. Later on, other ships and boats were also deployed there such as RAAN HMAS Vendetta, RAN’s HMS Woolaston, HMS Lanton, RMN’s KD Petrel, KD Sri Kelantan, KD Rencong, KD Sri Sarawak and SDML 3507.(hereherehere and here)
